Flash flooding as heavy rain hits area
Strong thunderstorms dumped enough rain on south Raleigh Thursday to cause flash flooding.

An area at the intersection of Gideon Creek Way and Durham Drive off Tryon Road was underwater. An ambulance caught in the water was left half submerged. Two EMS workers in the ambulance were not hurt.
Our crew on the scene also witnessed a woman abandoning her flooded SUV in Raleigh.

The National Weather Service has issued an aerial flood advisory.
Don Schwenneker says a cold front moving over Virginia, and North Carolina is causing the showers and isolated thunderstorms.
"An upper-level storm system will be near central North Carolina tonight and tomorrow," he said. "This feature will bring spotty showers through tomorrow. Temperatures tomorrow will reach only the 60s, even with a few intervals of sunshine."
The upper-level system finally swings far enough to the east and northeast to put central North Carolina back into a dry, warmer pattern just in time for the start of the Mother's Day weekend.
Temperatures will rebound into the 70s Saturday, then they climb into the low 80s Sunday. A weakening cold front could bring an isolated shower or thunderstorm Sunday evening, but chances aren't great.
High pressure, building into the Carolinas from the north, will help bring generally nice, and warmer, weather for early next week.
