Triangle man captures footage of violent Illinois tornado

A Triangle man who captured a violent Midwest tornado on camera shared his experience with ABC11 on Thursday.

Sam Smith was driving down an Illinois highway when a monster twister dropped down.

Smith watched the EF-4 tornado barreling toward him out the front window of his car.

He was on a business trip, driving from Minneapolis to Indianapolis on Interstate 39 in central Illinois.

Smith gave some amazingly calm commentary while shooting the video. But over Skype, Smith told ABC11 that he was not feeling calm at all.

Smith is slated to return to the Midwest for a business trip in the near future.
