Watch as lightning strikes New York's Freedom Tower.

NEW YORK, New York (WTVD) -- A simple lightning strike is reminding Americans that we're resilient.

Severe weather swept through the metropolitan New York area Tuesday night, bringing rough winds and lightning with it.

Many New Yorkers huddled by windows and gathered on rooftops to watch the storm.

Some were even lucky enough at watch a lightning bolt hit the One World Trade Center.

In a video Eliot Calhoun posted to Twitter, a woman can be heard scream just as the lightning hits.

It's no surprise that the strike was a sight to see. Many, like Jordan Card, were amazing.

"Lightning 2.0," Card said in an Instagram post.

"GOD IS SO COOL," Nadja de Sá said in her Twitter post. "Lightning struck the Freedom Tower and we caught it on camera on the roof of my apartment building in New York!"

The One World Trade Center was erected in 2014 in memory of the fallen Twin Towers in the World Trade Center complex in Manhattan.

Some believe the strike was symbolic- united we stand!
