Raleigh woman attacked while jogging: 'I want him off the streets'

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The victim of what for most of us would be a terrifying attack said she wasn't frightened at all.

The 25-year-old, who we are not identifying, said she was attacked while out jogging.

"It's mostly like mind blowing shocking," she said. "I wouldn't really say scary. I mean by the grace (of God) nothing else happened but it was just like a,'wow, did that just really happen?'"

It was on a Saturday evening nearly two weeks ago that the woman said she was jogging along Falls of the Neuse Road near the intersection of Spruce Shadows Lane about a mile and a half from her home in Wakefield.

Although it was still light outside, she said she kept glancing back mostly because she wears earphones and tries to be aware of her surroundings.

"I just look behind me and I see someone coming like full speed behind me. So, I'm like, okay let me stop. I stop, thinking he's going to go past me. Instead, he wraps both his arms around me and we go down the hill tumbling where he falls on top of me."

The two came to a stop in the grassy area next to a sewer line cap.

She continued saying, "He doesn't even say anything. He's like just, 'Mmmmm,' moaning and like just making weird sounds. So, I tried to get from under him. I tried to move my legs and he wraps his leg around mine."

She quickly came up with an effective lie telling him, "I don't know what's wrong with you but my phone's automatically calling the police. I don't know you. I think you need help but my phone's already calling the police. If you don't get up off of me they're going to know exactly where I'm at and you're going to be in trouble."

She said when the man finally took off across Falls of the Neuse Road she really called 911 but he continued to tail her.

"I'm walking back towards my house; He's still following me like across the street," she described. "I go in the middle of the road to the median and I see him.

She added, "He goes up into the bushes and then comes back out and I see him just like walking through the trees."

Finally, he was gone.

She said a sketch released by police, based on her description of the attacker, is very accurate.

Adding that when she first gave that description to investigators they told her it fit the description of a man who days earlier had exposed himself to a woman.

So, she fears the man who attacked her has ramped up his courage and could strike again, even more boldly next time.

"I would hate for this to happen to someone else, someone's child," she said. "No, I want this guy off the streets."
