Overturned ice truck shuts down Aviation Pkwy near I-40

WAKE COUNTY (WTVD) -- Aviation Parkway near Interstate 40 in Wake County was closed in both directions for hours after an ice truck overturned in the roadway Thursday morning.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said the truck overturned around 11 a.m. at the intersection when the driver was unable to stop at a stop light and swerved to avoid colliding with another vehicle.

The driver of the truck was not injured in the accident.

A Hazmat crew was called to the scene after fuel leaked from the truck's gas tank.

The driver of the truck is expected to be cited for running a red light and driving too fast for weather conditions, according to troopers.
