FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A suspect was shot while attempting an armed robbery Tuesday in the 1600 block of Eureka Avenue in Fayetteville, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say a man, Billy Taylor, called 911 after an unknown black man came into the house with a gun and told Taylor to get on the floor.

Robert McLaughlin, Taylor's brother, heard the commotion and came out of his bedroom, according to authorities. He says he saw Taylor face down on the floor with a gun pointed at him. McLaughlin went back to the bedroom to get a gun.

Deputies say the suspect, Clarence Kebreau, kicked open the bedroom door and was shot by McLaughlin.

Soon after, authorities and medics arrived on the scene. Kebreau was taken to Cape Fear Valley Health Systems before being airlifted to UNC Hospital where he is being treated.
