HENDERSON, NC (WTVD) -- A truck crash closed Interstate 85 South near exit 217 (Satterwhite Point Road) near Henderson for several hours.

That's about 16 miles south of the Virginia state line.

The lanes reopened shortly after 4 p.m. but traffic remains backed up.

The DOT said the crash is in a work zone where traffic is down a single lane in each direction. Even after the truck is removed, guard rail repairs will have to be done.

Southbound traffic was being diverted off the interstate at exit 220 (U.S. 1/158/Flemingtown Road). Drivers go left on Flemingtown Road, and then right on U.S. 1 south. The detour continues onto U.S. 158 West and then turns right on Parham Road, which gets traffic back to I-85 South at exit 215.
