FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A woman was struck by a train in Fayetteville Friday night, police said.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. on the rail line along Winslow Street near the Blount Street intersection.

Police said witnesses found the injured woman and called 911, but the train was no longer there.

The victim was alert when emergency crews arrived. She was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

The identity of the female is being withheld, until her immediate family has been notified.

The FPD will work jointly with representatives from CSX and Amtrak during the crash investigation and additional information will be released as it becomes available. Anyone with information concerning the crash is asked to contact the FPD at (910) 433-1830.
