FRANKLIN COUNTY, North Carolina (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a 7-year-old special-needs boy was hit by a vehicle and killed in Franklin County on Monday night.

It happened about 9 p.m. on Darius Pearce Road, just east of US-401. That's an unincorporated Youngsville address, but the location is east of Wake Forest.

Troopers said 29-year-old Alix Penelope Feild was driving a Buick that hit Ronnie Tanner Vick. The boy died at the scene.

Investigators said Feild kept going and was found a short time later down the roadway.

Franklin County deputies charged Feild with DWI and she posted a $5,000 bond Tuesday. Troopers said they plan to consult with the district attorney on additional charges against Feild.

Franklin County school officials said the boy went by Tanner.

"The loss of any student - especially a young child - is unfathomably difficult. As a district, our thoughts and prayers go out to the Vick family and we will continue to do everything we can to support them and our school community," said Patrick Glace, Director of Communications for Franklin County Schools.

Glace said there are counselors at Bunn Elementary School for students and staff who need emotional support.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral expenses.
