3 injured in Durham crash
A serious, head-on accident shut down part of Holloway Street near where it turns into N.C. Highway 98 in Durham.

DURHAM (WTVD) -- A serious, head-on accident shut down part of Holloway Street near N.C. Highway 98 in Durham Thursday night.

It happened around 9:10 p.m. in the 2700 block of Holloway near South Woodcrest Street.

Police said 24-year-old Richard Thompson Jr. was driving a Mercedes east on Holloway Street at a high rate of speed when his vehicle collided with a Ford Focus driven by 34-year-old Quateria McGirt. McGirt was attempting to make a left turn from South Woodcrest Street on to Holloway Street when the crash happened. Both drivers were taken to the hospital for serious injuries.

A 15-year-old female passenger in McGirt's vehicle and a 22-year-old male passenger in Thompson's vehicle were also taken to the hospital. A second male passenger in Thompson's vehicle was not injured.

No charges have been filed, but the accident remains under investigation.

The force of the crash broke a power pole.
