Car collides with fuel tanker truck, driver flees scene

DURHAM, North Carolina (WTVD) -- The driver of a car ended up fleeing the scene after getting trapped by a fuel tanker truck at a Durham gas station Friday morning.

It happened just after 6:30 a.m. at the BP gas station at Alston Avenue and Holloway Street.

Authorities told ABC11 that the tanker truck was leaving the parking lot after delivering fuel, when the driver of a black Nissan Altima tried to pull out of the same exit, but got pinned by the tanker.

The front bumped of the car was torn off in the collision.

The unidentified driver then fled the scene, leaving the damaged black car behind.

Officers at the scene called the incident a hit-and-run and said the license plate on the car did not belong to the vehicle.

No injuries were reported.

The incident forced authorities to close the roadway so a tow truck could pull the car away from the tanker.

The road reopened a short time later.
