Woman charged with DWI after crashing into police car in Apex
A woman crashed into the back of a police car while driving under the influence in Apex, according to investigators.

APEX, N.C. (WTVD) -- A woman crashed into the back of a police car while driving under the influence in Apex, according to investigators.

Apex Police Department arrested Chilea Akilah Dickson, 32, around 1 a.m. Tuesday.

According to authorities, the police vehicle was on the left shoulder of U.S. Highway 1 near the northbound on-ramp from E. Williams Street.

After the crash, Dickson continued to drive to down U.S. 1 and was eventually stopped near the Ten Ten Road exit.

Dickson was charged with DWI, driving with a revoked/suspended license associated with a prior DWI charge, possession of schedule VI controlled substance, possession of open container of alcoholic beverage, hit and run, failure to move over for an emergency vehicle, failure to maintain lane control, careless and reckless driving, failure to reduce speed to avoid collision and failure to heed blue lights and siren.

The Apex officer was able to finish the patrol shift after being assessed by a medical provider and was released back to duty.
