Trial of Durham man accused of killing his son enters second day
There was disturbing evidence photos and high emotion in a Durham courtroom Monday as a father stands trial for the murder of his 4-year-old son.

DURHAM (WTVD) -- The long time neighbor and friend of the Durham father accused of suffocating his 4-year-old son broke down in tears on the stand Monday.

Cynthia Ross tearfully testified as day two of the Joseph Mitchell murder trial got underway at the Durham County Courthouse.

Ross told jurors she performed CPR on Blake Mitchell before paramedics arrived.

On cross-examination, Ross stood by previous comments that she thought Mitchell was possessed that night.

Mitchell does not dispute charges he attacked his children and suffocated Blake.

However, Mitchell's attorneys claim the father was overwhelmed by financial problems which caused him to unconsciously carry out the crime in his sleep.

If convicted, Mitchell is facing life in prison.
