17 people lose their home in Johnston County apartment fire

SMITHFIELD, N.C. (WTVD) -- Seventeen people lost their homes in an apartment fire in Smithfield late Wednesday afternoon.

According to firefighters, the flames broke out at the Johnston Court Apartments on Kay Drive.

While firefighters tackled the blaze, the roof collapsed into one of the apartment buildings.

No injuries have been reported at this time. The cause of the fire is currently unknown.
