A gas leak on Leesville Road in Raleigh caused traffic delays for over an hour

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A gas leak was reported at Leesville Road and Renfield Drive in Raleigh on Thursday just before 2 p.m.

Officials said Leesville Road was closed between New Leesville and Farless roads, but reopened later in the afternoon.

PSNC said a construction crew digging in the area accidentally hit a line. The leak has been capped and a PSNC crew is making repairs.

Officials said the leak affected departures and pick-ups from Sycamore Elementary School. Buses were being rerouted but still ran.

A Wake County Public School System official told ABC11 that parents driving to pick-up their children would not have access coming south from Harrington Grove and Dominion Park.

Parents coming from that direction were advised to find an alternate route coming north from the direction of I-540.

WCPSS officials also said there would be no walkers due to the leak, and parents needed to follow carpool procedures for those students.
