Former Freedom Christian Academy employee charged
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office has charged a former employee of Freedom Christian Academy with violating the sex offender registration act.

FAYETTEVILLE, NC (WTVD) -- The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office has charged a former employee of Freedom Christian Academy with violating the sex offender registration act.

Deputies began investigating after a complaint that Paul Connor - the husband of a teacher - was allowed to work at the school.

Connor is also charged with one count of conspiracy with Head of School Joan Dayton and the Freedom Christian Academy to violate the sex offender registry act.

North Carolina law says convicted sex offenders are not allowed in or near schools.

While named in the conspiracy charge, Dayton has not been charged. Last week, Dayton announced she has taken a voluntary leave of absence.

The investigation continues and more charges are expected.
