FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A standoff involving Fayetteville police late Thursday night, ended peacefully early Friday morning with the suspect surrendering.
It started around 8 p.m. in the 300 block of Highland Avenue, in the Haymount area near downtown, when 29-year-old Brian "Levi" Byford barricaded himself in a house.
Police said Byford was wanted in Harnett County for robbery with a dangerous weapon, second-degree kidnapping, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and assault with a deadly weapon.
He refused to come out of the home for over 5 hours, but authorities were finally able to negotiate with Byford. He surrendered without incident around 1 a.m. and was taken to the Cumberland County Detention Center.
Police said nearby residents were evacuated as a precaution.
