RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The driver involved in an accident that killed a motorcyclist on Interstate 540 last week is facing charges in connection with the fatal crash.

The accident happened around 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 3 along the eastbound I-540 near Aviation Parkway in the Durham County at the Wake/Durham county line.

Witnesses said 28-year-old Kanak Singh of Raleigh, lost control in the westbound lanes, crossed the median through a cable barrier, and then spun into the eastbound lanes pointed east.

The motorcycle driven by 44-year-old Philip James Sabino of Raleigh then rear-ended Singh's Honda, throwing him to the pavement. Sabino was declared dead at the scene.

On Monday, the State Highway Patrol charged Singh with misdemeanor death by a motor vehicle and failure to maintain lane control.
