Boy's death remains under investigation
Thirteen-year-old Keyshawn Tyrell Gregory was found shot to death inside a car in Raleigh Friday night.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Authorities are searching for the gunman responsible for the death of a 13-year-old Raleigh boy.

Keyshawn Tyrell Gregory was found fatally shot inside a car at the intersection of East Jones and North State Street after 9:30 p.m. Friday.

Family and friends have gathered at the intersection where a memorial for Gregory continues to grow.

"This got to stop," family friend Brandon Grere said. "This right here just uncalled for. And for all the family, love you. I'm here. This got to stop. Whoever did this need to come forward and be a man about the situation. Because this right here is not cool."

After a follow-up investigation police said the teen was shot in the 1400 block of Beauty Avenue, about a mile from where he was found.

There have been no arrests. His mother, Lakesha Harris, says she desperately wants her son's killer to be brought to justice.

"I just hope justice is served like it's supposed to be," said Harris. "He was very outgoing, outspoken little boy. He loved basketball. He loved his siblings and playing with his siblings. Anything he wanted to accomplish, he accomplished."

Harris said she thinks her son had some sort of altercation with a young man before the shooting.

"He was hit, from what I know, in the head...shot in head," she said.

Gregory was getting ready to go into the 8th grade at Ligon Middle School. He lived with his dad, but constantly kept in touch with mom.

"He loved me and his siblings so much. He often called to check on them every other day, inboxed me on Facebook to make sure they were okay," she said.

Meanwhile, Gregory's family and basketball teammates are planning to hold a vigil at the site of his death on Wednesday night.
