NORFOLK, Va. -- A North Carolina man has pleaded guilty in Virginia to possessing stolen guns.

Federal prosecutors say 25-year-old Robert James Gibson of Roxobel, North Carolina, entered the plea Thursday in federal court in Norfolk.

Court records show Gibson and an accomplice broke into a Virginia Beach gun shop and stole 22 firearms that were later offered for sale on the street.

Prosecutors say the case came to light after a man shot a gun into the air after leaving a nightclub and identified Gibson and the accomplice to police as the sellers. Police determined the gun had been stolen from the gun shop.

Gibson faces up to 10 years in prison. Sentencing is set for Dec. 3.
