PITTSBORO, NC (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol says two 18-year-olds are dead after a crash on Hwy. 64 Friday night between Pittsboro and Siler City.

Troopers said a vehicle approaching Hwy 64 on Alex Cockman Rd. failed to stop at the stop sign. It happened around 8:30 p.m.

The driver, Taveon Machen of Greensboro, and the back passenger, Kavasia Hatch of Pittsboro, both died.

Troopers said the front seat passenger, 18-year-old Achilles Machen of Siler City, had non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities said Taveon Machen and Achilles Machen were cousins.

Kavasia Hatch was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the car, troopers said. He was airlifted to Duke Hospital where he later died.

The vehicle that hit them was travelling eastbound on Hwy 64. The driver, 22-year-old Nicholas Raymond Hurst of Louisburg, was taken to UNC Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Hurst's three passengers were also taken to UNC with non-life threatening injuries.

Hurst was charged with no operator license and limited expired tags.
