Boy's reason for jumping off bridge unknown

APEX

Despite reports that the eighth grader was facing disciplinary action and was being followed by the school's principal when he jumped, neither /*Apex Police*/ or /*Wake County Schools*/ will confirm that's the case.

Apex Police were at /*Lufkin Middle School*/ Friday, trying to piece together what happened. They told Eyewitness News they do not think it was a suicide attempt.

According to school officials, the student refused his normal transportation and left campus without proper authorization.

Instead, they say he walked away from campus, went to the /*Ten Ten Road*/ bridge and took a desperate leap.

Police say the school was aware the student left and called EMS shortly after he jumped from the bridge.

The investigation continues and the male student is recovering at a local hospital. He is listed in stable condition.

Jumping from a bridge is illegal in /*North Carolina*/.
