Police investigate Durham head-on collision

DURHAM

The accident happened when an eastbound Toyota Avalon driven by Nadine Williams, 39, of Durham ran off the right side of the road and traveled approximately 300 feet before going back on the road and into the westbound lane.

Williams struck a westbound Hyundai driven by Veronica Parks, 24, of Durham head-on.

Parks was taken by LifeFlight to /*Duke University Hospital*/, where she was in critical condition Tuesday night.

Williams was treated at Duke for injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. There were no passengers in the vehicles.

Both vehicles were total losses. The accident slowed traffic on Umstead Road for approximately two hours.

The accident is still under investigation. Weather was not a factor in the accident, according to investigators.
