According to a press release sent by the Durham Sheriff's Office, the two deputies were injured during a "small scale disturbance" at the Durham County Jail around 10 a.m. Thursday.
Officials say the officers were trying to stop a fight that involved two inmates when one of the inmates in the confrontation attempted to assault a a third inmate.
The inmates involved in the disturbance were not injured.
The detention officers were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
