Adriano Johan Avila was reported missing just after 9 p.m. from his home off Bluegrass Road just north of Selma.
Officials say the boy was out playing with friends. The friends went into a house when they came back outside Adriano was missing.
Officials searched the wooded area with all terrain vehicles. Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison sent a bloodhound unit to assist in the search.
The child was found safe around 11 p.m. in a wooded area near the home.
