Officials say an alarm went off around 5 a.m. at the facility security office. Each unit has a non-activity alarm. This lets the center know when a resident hasn't been active for a while (i.e. opening fridge, opening door,etc.). This is a standard safety feature at assisted/independent living facilities.
When facility officials went to check on the woman who lived in the unit, 86-year-old Elizabeth Chambelin, was not there. Three hours later, land surveyors found her body near walking trails on the campus.
Investigators do not suspect foul play.
