Governor Easley to endorse Bev Perdue

RALEIGH "We have witnessed a vibrant primary between two strong, ambitious candidates with proven track records of service to the state," said NCDP Chair Jerry Meek. "After a hard-fought primary, Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue is strong and Democrats are coming together to offer her steadfast, enthusiastic support."

Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue and Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory won their party's nominations for governor Tuesday night.

Perdue had 55 percent of the vote in the Democratic primary. State Treasurer Richard Moore was second with 41 percent; retired Air Force Col. Dennis Nielsen of Nash County was third with 4 percent.

The event will be held at 11 a.m. at the North Carolina Democratic Party Headquarters, 220 Hillsborough Street in Raleigh.

Easley endorsement comes as he is barred by state law from seeking a third term.
