UNC Chapel Hill to announce new chancellor

CHAPEL HILL The announcement will come during a special meeting of the board at the Spangler Center, formerly known as the General Administration Building.

UNC spokeswoman Joni Worthington said the candidate would be available to address the media after the announcement.

Sources say Holden Thorp, who is the dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at UNC will named chancellor.

The new chancellor will replace James Moeser, who will take a year's research leave after stepping down from the job before returning to campus as a professor.

Moeser was elected as the successor to Chancellor Michael Hooker, who died in 1999.
