Another man charged with counterfeit checks

FAYETTEVILLE

31-year old George Elijah Huntley III of Fayetteville is charged with two counts of uttering forged checks and obtaining property by false pretenses.

Huntley and his accomplices, 45-year old Mark Steven Boutan whose address is listed as homeless and 25-year old Shanee Burtwell of Fayetteville allegedly passed checks on a fictitious Waffle House account at a Hope Mills pawn shop. Deputies suspect there may be others who unknowingly accepted counterfeit payroll checks from Waffle House over the weekend. Those persons are urged to contact the Cumberland County Property Crimes Unit at (910) 677-5455.

Meanwhile, Boutan has been charged with felony possession of counterfeit instruments, forgery and uttering and obtaining property by false pretense. He was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a two thousand dollar unsecured bond.

Burtwell is charged with two counts of felony forgery and uttering, two counts obtaining property by false pretense, injury to personal property, second degree trespassing and felony conspiracy. She was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a two thousand 500 dollar unsecured bond.

Huntley is being held in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond. A first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
