Illegal turn by unidentified driver causes wreck

JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C.

It happened just before noon at mile marker 84, near Four Oaks.

/*North Carolina Highway Patrol*/ troopers tell Eyewitness News a Nissan Altima slowed, or stopped in the travel lane while making a U-turn from Interstate 95 north onto I-95 south.

The driver of a SUV tried to avoid the wreck and ended up going off the right side of the road and overturned.

Four people from New Jersey, who were on their way to Hilton Head, South Carolina, were flown by helicopter to WakeMed and Duke.

All of their injuries, including broken bones and cuts, are not considered life threatening.

No charges are being considered at this time, but troopers are looking for a white Nissan Altima seen making the illegal U-turn that caused the wreck.

I-95 was closed in both directions for about an hour, causing traffic to back up at least 10 miles.

Troopers say all of the occupants in the SUV are related.
