Cumberland man faces sex charges

FAYETTEVILLE, NC Andrew Rogers, 27, allegedly began inappropriately touching his victim in December, 2007. Those activities soon escalated to kidnapping the girl and forcing her to engage in sex acts.

Rogers is charged with statutory rape, statutory sex offense, taking indecent liberties with a minor and 2nd degree kidnapping.

He remains in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $180,000 secured bond. Rogers is to make a first court appearance today in District Courtroom 2-B.

Meanwhile, Rogers' brother-in-law, 29-year old Michael Strickland is charged with obstruction of justice in this particular case. He was arrested last night by members of the Sheriff's Office Special Response Team.

Investigators say Strickland has continually displayed aggressive behavior against the victim's family. Witnesses say Strickland has verbally threatened the family and made comments about running over the victim's younger sibling with a car.

Strickland is charged with obstruction of justice and was released from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $3000 secured bond.
