Star Chapel Hill athlete dies

CHAPEL HILL, NC Family and friends are struggling with the death of Atlas Fraley.

Fraley, 17, died at his home on Tuesday of an apparent asthma attack. Just hours earlier, the star football player participated in a scrimmage at Cary's Middle Creek High School with two other teams. According to WCHL-AM, N.C. State, Georgia Tech and Louisville showed interest in Fraley because of his talent on the football field.

Fraley, who was known as ATL, was about to start his final season at Chapel Hill High School on August 22.

Wednesday's practice and Friday's scrimmage against Cedar Ridge High School have been canceled. A decision about Thursday's practice will be made following Wednesday's meeting.

Grief counselors are at the school according to the Chapel Hill High School Principal Jacqueline Ellis.
