NCDOT closes lane on I-40

RALEIGH The N.C. Department of Transportation will close one of two lanes on I-40 West between Exit 289 at Wade Avenue and the Wade Avenue overpass beginning Friday at 9 p.m., until 6 a.m., Sunday with weather permitting.

The closure is part of the ongoing project to rehabilitate a 12.9 mile section of I-440/I-40from Exit 289 to Exit 301.

Motorists can expect heavy delays and are encouraged to use alternate routes during the lane closure.

On Sunday at 9 p.m., crews will resume nightly lane closures on I-40 between Exit 289 and Exit 301.

There will be no weekday lane closures during construction; lanes will remain open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. While nighttime and/or weekend lane closures are in effect, at least one lane in each direction will remain open at all times.

NCDOT reminds motorists to stay alert and use alternate routes, when possible. The speed limit will be 55 miles per hour during lane closures and 65 mph at all other times.

No parking allowed on the shoulder of I-40 through the construction zone. In addition, the "No Trucks in the Left Lane" restriction will be lifted.
