Fatal crash closes portion of Leesville Road

RALEIGH

Motorists should expect delays and avoid the area.

The wreck caused damage to a power line, and that line must be repaired before the road can be reopened. Repairs are underway and the road remains closed as of 12 p.m.

The wreck was reported at 2:25 a.m.

One person, 38-year-old Daniel Robert Esmond, was killed. He was a passenger in the vehicle that struck the utility pole.

According to police, the vehicle driven by 20-year-old Anthony Josephy Caggiano, was traveling north on Leesville Road when it left the right side of the pavemt. The vehicle struck a polce and flipped over.

Caggiano is charged with felony death by motor vehicle, driving while impaired, provisional driving while impaired, and careless and reckless driving. He was transported to the Wake County Jail.
