He then ran across the street to a Harris Teeter parking lot and tried to steal a car.
The car's owners fought back, but Ervin got away with the vehicle.
Police caught up with him on Highway 401 in the stolen car. He was arrested at the scene.

GARNER Garner Police say Fred Ervin allegedly robbed the McDonald's BP station on Ten Ten Road in Garner Sunday.
