Forecasters expect heavy snow in the North Carolina mountains Tuesday and Tuesday night. The Eyewitness News weather team is watching a cold front that's expected to cross into the area Monday night.Behind that front, a northwest wind will bring cold, moist air up the western slopes of the southern Appalachians.

Residents of Avery, Mitchell and Yancey counties can expect up to 4 inches of snowfall by Wednesday morning. The heaviest show should fall along the Tennessee border.
