Paratrooper killed in shooting

FAYETTEVILLE Sgt. Christopher Mark Lewis Irvin, 23, of Statesboro, Ga., was a Vehicle Maintenance Shop Foreman with the 508th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division.

He served a tour of duty in Afghanistan.

Investigators have released few details of Irvin's death, but say it is considered a homicide.

Irwin's colleagues say he was a leader who they could always count on in any situation as well as a friend.

"Sgt. Irwin was a great leader and even better friend. When it came to work, he would set the example on how to be an [noncommissioned officer]," said Spc. Jonathan Lendved, one of Irvin's Soldiers. "He was a friend that will never be forgotten."

Irvin is survived by his wife and son.
