Ishmael Beutel Worthington, 28, was arrested Tuesday. He is charged with intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.
The 10-month-old boy is suffering from shaken baby syndrome and is in critical condition. He was taken by his aunt to Craven Regional Medical Center in New Bern before being transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Worthington, who lives with two other adults including the child's mother, was babysitting the child when the incident occurred.
