The Highway Patrol tells Eyewitness News that the 77-year-old grandfather, the boy --2-year-old Derrick McBride-- and his two parents were in a Ford Taurus that was stopped or stalled on the highway.
A Chevy Tahoe slammed into the back of the car knocking it about a 100 feet down the road. The back of the car was completely crushed.

McBride and his grandfather have critical injuries. His parents are reportedly okay.
The driver of the Tahoe was not seriously hurt, but charges are pending.
