The North Carolina Council of State will try to help stimulate the N.C.'s economy allowing new debt for state construction projects. The panel, which is comprised of the governor, lieutenant governor and eight other statewide elected officials will meet today.

Outgoing Gov. Mike Easley wants the council to vote to accelerate building projects from debt already approved.

The money will be used toward more than $700 million for prisons, university and other state government buildings.

According to Easley, has said the projects will produce nearly 26,000 new jobs.
