Police: Woman attacked mother with hammer

Cary Prosecutors say 56-year-old Kathyn Carey was not taking medication for a medical condition and hit Elizabeth Belken on the head. Police officers say Carey told them she wanted to kill her mother.

Belken was able to get the hammer away from her daughter and call for help. She was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Carey is charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury. A judge set her bond at $450,000.
