Local paratroopers to march in inaugural parade

FORT BRAGG The division said about 80 members of B Company, 1st Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment will practice Thursday afternoon at Fort Bragg.

A total of 91 soldiers, including the battalion commander, will march in the parade.

Battalion commander Lt. Col. Xavier Brunson said the soldiers will be participating not only in a change of command but in the peaceful exchange of power that is "the hallmark of democracy."

The infantry regiment, also known as the 1st Brigade Combat Team, was activated in 1942 at Fort Benning, Ga., before plans were announced later that year to create the 82nd Airborne.
