School bus driver charged in fatal collision

CARY Trumeka Deon Wilson, 28, of Raleigh is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. The maximum penalty is 120 days in prison.

On January 5, police say she was driving a school bus that struck a SUV, killing the driver.

According to the police report, the bus was traveling west on Morrisville Carpenter Road when it ran off the road, came back onto the road at the intersection, crossed over the center line and struck the SUV on its driver's side.

Lincoln Woods, 25, of Cary was killed.

"This is a sad and difficult incident, and our thoughts are with both families involved in this tragedy," said Captain Mike Williams, Cary Police Department.

Police initially said they were looking for a gray Ford Taurus that may have run a stop sign at the intersection. They still have not located that car but would like to.

Investigators determined that even if the Taurus ran the stop sign, Wilson had time to react and avoid running off the road and avoid the collision.

However, after interviewing an eyewitness, investigators say the Taurus did not cause the wreck.

Wake County suspended Wilson with pay pending the outome of the investigation.
