Airman faces sex charges involving minor

WAYNE COUNTY, NC The Wayne County Sheriff's Office charged Jeremiah Powers with statutory sex offense, indecent liberties with a child and disseminating harmful material to a minor.

Authorities say they arrested Powers following a 10-day investigation.

On Jan. 18, the victim's family reported a possible sexual assault against their child, who is a minor.

The Seymour Johnson Air Force Office of Special Investigation is assisting in the investigation.

The Air Force base released the following statement regarding the case:

"This allegation is of a very serious nature and has been handled appropriately. The Air Force will and has cooperated fully with Wayne County Sheriff's Office to ensure due process of the law and a thorough investigation into allegations regarding Technical Sergeant Jeremiah Powers. He is currently assigned to the 4th Equipment Maintenance Squadron. Specific actions of the Air Force will depend on the results of the investigation."
