DNA found at murder of Chapel Hill student

CHARLOTTE That according to a published report Tuesday in the Charlotte Observer.

UNC Charlotte student Irina "Ira" Yarmolenko was strangled May 5. Two cousins are charged with killing her.

Detectives told a judge at a bond hearing Monday that DNA evidence found in Yarmolenko's car links Neal Leon Cassada Jr., 54, of Mount Holly and Mark Bradley Carver, 40, of Gastonia to the crime scene.

A defense attorney questioned the evidence, saying other DNA found at the scene matches neither the victim or the two men charged.

Cassada and Carver are being held in the Gaston County Jail under $1million bond each.
