Woman flees cops with child in baby seat

WAKE FOREST Investigators say the chase started when April Rene Pleasants, who was driving with a revoked driver's license, tried to avoid a driver's license checkpoint along Wait Avenue near the entrance to Bishop's Grant in Wake Forest. It happened just before 2 a.m. Monday morning.

The 45-minute pursuit hit speeds of 90 miles per hour before officers used 'stop sticks' to puncture Pleasants' tires in Nash County and she was forced to stop.

Police found Pleasants' 4-year-old son strapped into a child safety seat when they approached the car. He was unhurt.

Pleasants was arrested and charged with felony speeding to elude arrest, speeding, driving while license revoked, careless and reckless driving, and child abuse.

The child is now being cared for by Pleasants' mother.
