Planners suggest tolls for part of 540

RALEIGH The Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization is researching the Triangle's long-term traffic needs.

The group wants to ease traffic on I-540 between I-40 and US 64 by adding a lane in each direction. Planners suggest converting that stretch of 540 into a toll road to cover the costs.

Tolls are already planned to help pay for the southern stretch of 540.
