Durham police investigate year's first murder

DURHAM The victim was shot and killed around 11 p.m. in front of a house at 119 Herbert Street, near Liberty Street. Police identified the dead teen as Alejandro Emir Denis-Terron, 17, of Camellia Drive.

Police say they were called to the home and when officers arrived, they found Denis-Terron shot outside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

According Durham police, Denis-Terron was standing in the yard with a group of males when he was shot. Investigators are still in the process of determining the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

They have not said whether Denis-Terron lived at the house. A couple and a child were inside the home at the time of the shooting.

Officers are still interviewing witnesses. They say shortly after the shooting, a group of people were seen running through a nearby graveyard. Police have not made any arrests.

The investigating in ongoing, and police say they do not know the motive for the shooting.
