Bank robber leaves get-away trail

DURHAM The robbery happened at the First Citizens Bank located in the 7000 block of Fayetteville Road shortly before 12 p.m.

Durham Police says they were told that a man entered the bank and handed a teller a note demanding money --no weapon was seen.

Witnesses say after the man left the bank with a bag of money, a dye pack busted, forcing him to take off his jacket.

Soon after officers arrived, a police dog found several items of clothing believed to belong to the suspect beside a dumpster in a nearby parking lot.

Police say they discovered the suspect in the lobby of the Garden Inn Hotel.

Officers arrested Khesan Karreem Smalls, 30, and Katrina Ebette Rogers, 19. Smalls was charged with common-law robbery and Rogers was charged with aiding and abetting a common-law robbery. Smalls is also wanted on drug charges in New York.

The stolen money was recovered.
