Pilot lands plane on one engine

POPE AIR FORCE BASE Capt. Mason MacGarvey managed to land a C-130 aircraft in Baghdad after it lost three of its four engines on June 27, 2008.

All 38 people on board (32 passengers, six crew members) walked off the aircraft safely.

MacGarvey is stationed at Pope Air Force Base with the 2nd Airlift Squadron. On March 9, he and his crew also received the Air Force Chief of Safety Aircrew of Distinction Award for 2008.

"These awards are a great example of the Air Force supporting people put in extraordinary circumstances,” Captain MacGarvey said. “I would like to thank both my deployed and home station commanders for their steadfast support of me and my crew since the event.”
